Dr John Van Epp has developed a Relationship Attachment Model that
shows the most
practical reasons for sexual abstinence before marriage:
The Relationship Attachment Model shows there are five bonding
factors in any relationship:
1. Knowing the person
2. Trusting the person
3. Relying on the person to meet your needs
4. Making a commitment to the person
5. Getting physically involved with the person
These five factors are in a heirarchial order and you dare not let one
exceed the previous. Otherwise,
you will end up getting disappointed or emotionally hurt by that person:
a. You should never trust a person beyond what you know about them.
b. You should never rely on a person to meet your needs beyond how much
you trust them.
c. You should never make a commitment to a person beyond how much you
have come to rely on them.
d. You should never get physically involved with the person beyond your
level commitment to the person.
